Vocabulary Format & Cycle
*Each week, select ten (10) unfamiliar
words from the current reading during Monday’s reading time. Have the words approved by me before the end
of class on Monday. During Tuesday’s
class you will have time to define the word’s using a dictionary. For each word, look up the part of speech and
definition appropriate to the context and then determine a synonym and antonym
for the word. Include the context quote
the word is from with proper MLA citation, and finally, write an original
sentence that uses the word correctly and clearly shows the meaning (and cite
the part of speech used in the original sentence). Sentence Showdowns, a competition of original
sentences, will take place on Fridays during vocab weeks.

*After three vocabs have been completed (30
total words), write a story of three paragraphs (with a beginning, middle, and
ending) using ten (10) of the selected words (at least two [2] from each list
from that cycle). Be sure to use the
words correctly and label the part of speech in the story.
